Don’t Face Your Insurance Company Alone: Why Public Adjusters Matter
They Have an Adjuster Working Against You. Get One Working For You.
Insurance companies employ adjusters to protect their profits, not your interests. Their goal is to pay less and close claims fast. Without professional representation, you risk:
- Underpaid settlements that don’t cover full repair costs
- Denied claims from incomplete documentation
- Overwhelming paperwork and confusing jargon
- Months of delays negotiating alone
A public adjuster levels the playing field. Michael Acerra works solely for you, documenting your loss, preparing detailed estimates, and negotiating aggressively for the maximum settlement your policy allows.
The Michael Acerra Advantage
Industry Insider Knowledge
Michael has nearly 16 years of experience in the insurance and storm restoration industry, including over four years working for insurance companies as an independent adjuster. He knows how insurers operate from the inside and how to counter their tactics.
Dual Expertise
Licensed as both a public adjuster and residential/commercial contractor, Michael brings unique insight into construction costs, repairs, and damage assessment. Though Texas law prevents him from wearing both hats on your claim, his contractor experience means he knows exactly what repairs should cost and how to identify all damage.
Advanced Certifications
Xactimate Level 2 Certified, All Lines Adjuster License, GAF Certified Contractor, and Owens Corning Preferred Contractor.
MBA-Level Strategy
With his MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University, Michael brings strategic thinking and professional negotiation to every claim.
Licensed Throughout Texas
Based in Central Texas with offices in San Antonio and Round Rock, we serve clients statewide. Michael understands building codes, weather patterns, and regional insurance practices throughout Texas, with extensive experience in Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and surrounding Central Texas communities.
Start Here If Your Insurance Claim Was Underpaid, Delayed, or Denied
If your insurance company’s estimate does not match the real cost of repair, Mike A The PA can review your claim, inspect the damage, compare the carrier estimate against the actual scope, and help you understand your next steps.
The First 48 Hours After Damage
What you do right after a storm, a fire, or a burst pipe shapes what your claim is worth.
- 1Make it safe, then stop the damage from spreading.Shut off the water, cover the roof, board up a broken window — if it is safe to do so. Keep it temporary. Do not start permanent repairs yet.
- 2Photograph everything before you clean up.Wide shots of every room, then close-ups, then a slow video walkthrough. Do this before anyone moves anything. This is the evidence the whole claim is built on, and it cannot be recreated later.
- 3Do not throw damaged property away.Ruined flooring, soaked drywall, a burned appliance — keep it, or at least keep photos, model numbers and serial numbers. Once it is at the curb, it is much harder to prove.
- 4Keep every receipt.Tarps, fans, an emergency plumber, a hotel room. What gets reimbursed depends on your policy — but without receipts the question never even gets asked.
- 5Report the claim in writing, and keep a record.Note the claim number, the date and time, and the name of every person you speak with. In Texas the clock starts when the insurer receives written notice of your claim.
- 6Know the deadlines Texas law puts on your insurer.Under the Texas Insurance Code your insurance company must acknowledge your claim within 15 days of receiving notice and begin its investigation, accept or reject it in writing within 15 business days after it receives everything it asked for, and pay an accepted claim within 5 business days of that notice. If it misses these deadlines, it can owe interest and your attorney’s fees on top of the claim.
- 7Get your own adjuster involved before their adjuster inspects. The adjuster the insurance company sends works for the insurance company. In Texas you have the right to hire your own licensed public adjuster to represent you instead. That first inspection sets the tone for the entire claim — it is far better to be there with your own documentation than to react to theirs afterwards.
